Desia • Ava (b.1991) is a Bulgarian-born visual artist based in Stockholm.
She is educated in Architecture (Barch), Product design (MA), Spatial design (MFA) and Fine Art (Post-Master).
Past exhibitions include: Liljevalchs Konst musem (Stockholm, Sweden) and Una Boccata d’arte/Galleria Continua (Fumone, Italy);
Artist and young entrepreneur, she has been featured in Gem Barton’s second edition of "Don't Get a Job...Make a Job New Edition: Inventive career models for next-gen creatives", 2023-Laurence King Publishing;
Desia creates sculptures, installations and digital work. She works with contemporary digital tools such as AI generated images, 3D scanning, Photogrammetry, Microscope photography, as well as traditional methods such as stonework and metal casting. Her material palette includes raw materials such as wood, metal and stone as well as “invisible” and “non-solid” elements such as water, sound, mist and fragrance and edibles (sugar, jelly, salt). Desia’s artistic research is focused on creating sensory, meditative and mindful experiences. Her work explores the element of scale, of the micro worlds and the way they are connected to the universal. Her art explores the relationship between art and science/technology as well as questioning existing ecosystems. The artist uses technological tools to translate natural environments/specimens into artistic contexts. The alchemic, the transition of environmental phenomenas and creations into art objects (physical and non physical, material and immaterial).
